Blog van 2012 – 08 – 14 Traject: IJmuiden – Grevelingen Crew: Skipper Cees Sam Krikken The best time to start a trip from IJmuiden Southbound is 3 hours after high tide IJmuiden. Today High Tide is at 02:15 AM meaning we will have to be outside the harbour at 05:15. That way we will enjoy the optimum tidal stream South. The bad news was getting up so early. Anyway we managed to leave the Marina at 05:30 just before the sun rised above the Tata Steelworks. With all sails we left IJmuiden harbour and sailed the first hours with some fair wind. We even set the half-winder in order to win speed. At 09:00 however the wind was totally disappeared and we had to start our motor. We crossed the entrance of the Rotterdam harbour at noon. Still with help of our motor. In the afternoon, again too little wind, but nice warm weather. At 17:00 hours we took the decision to harbour at the Grevelingendam next to the town of Stellendam. We stayed outside the lock in salt water. Tomorrow our target is Oostende or the first French harbour. The predictions are good wind 5 Bf from an Easterly direction. We will keep you updated.
